Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)
Airport Hotels and Accommodation
(Amsterdam, Netherlands)
The accommodation scene in Amsterdam can become rather frenzied during the summer months, when the city is heaving with tourists and hotels fill up. It is therefore essential that you book ahead at this time, particularly if you crave a view of the famous Dutch canals and waterways.
Otherwise, you may well find yourself staying on the outskirts of the city and relying on buses to travel into the centre. Further hotels overlook both the Vondelpark district and the Museum Quarter, while others are close to the bustling Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) and manage to suit a variety of different lodging needs and requirements.
Amsterdam: Airport Hotels and Accommodation
One of the most popular hotels at the airport is the Mercure Schiphol Terminal, which is located onsite, close to the customs area. Also popular, the Hilton Amsterdam Airport Hotel is connected to the terminal building by a covered walkway and offers almost 300 guest rooms - including executive accommodation, around 20 meeting rooms and an excellent restaurant.

Amsterdam: City Hotels and Accommodation
Central Amsterdam is extremely diverse and consists of many different districts and neighbourhoods, each of which has something unique to offer. Numerous hotels lie in the heart of the city, just 15 km / 9 miles north-east of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), with a selection close to the Centraal Train Station (CS) and the surrounding area.
Amsterdam can be extremely busy at times, throughout most the year, so reserving accommodation in advance is always necessary. Although hotels in the very city centre and around the Leidseplein area tend to be more expensive, they are worth the money, being within walking distance of many local restaurants, cafés, bars, shops and nightclubs.
Few hotels offer parking facilities for those driving into the city, with the exception of top-end accommodation, so be sure to enquire about this when booking. A number of the historic hotels in central Amsterdam have been upgraded in recent years, while those looking for more modern lodging in Amsterdam will not be disappointed. Many impressive high-rise complexes are located around the city, offering impressive views.
If you need to book accommodation upon arrival, visit Amsterdam's tourist information offices, or the GWK Exchange Office at Centraal Station, where useful hotel booking services are available. Tourist offices can be found at the train station, at Leidseplein, next to the old Olympic Stadium, and in the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport shopping plaza area.
