Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)
Travel and Ground Transport
(Amsterdam, Netherlands)
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) features many modern transportation options, meaning that you can travel into the city centre and beyond by bus, taxi and even by train.
Serving Amsterdam, its suburbs and many neighbouring towns, ground transport at Schiphol Airport connects onward destinations such as Amstelveen, Beverwijk, Bussum, Diemen, Hilversum, Hoofddorp, Purmerend and Zaanstad.
Trains
Schiphol Airport has a large railway station situated in the main terminal building's central hall. With direct links to Amsterdam Centraal Station, the trains provide a fast way to travel into central Amsterdam, Den Bosch, Den Haag, Haarlem, Leiden, Roosendaal, Utrecht and Wageningen. Departing every 15 minutes from 06:00 to midnight, the train journey into the city centre lasts just 20 minutes. Night trains are also available and connect Delft, Leiden and Rotterdam.
High-speed 'Fyra' trains travel to international cities further afield, including Antwerp, Berlin, Brussels, Hannover, Marseilles and Paris - tickets need to be purchased in advance. Further information on the train routes and times can be obtained at the Ground Transportation Counter in the baggage reclaim areas.
Buses
Schiphol Airport is connected to the city centre by regular public buses (Interliner buses 197 and 370). Buses run every 15 to 20 minutes, being both cheap and convenient. Interliner buses also travel between Aalsmeer, Alphen, Leimuiden, Lisse, Oranjebaan, Osdorp, Ouderkerk, Sassenheim, Slotervaart, Uithoorn and Vijfhuizen. Zuidtangent Express and Schiphol Sternet buses provide further alternatives, using special dedicated bus lanes to avoid heavy traffic.
Taxi Cabs
A fast and easy way to travel into central Amsterdam is by taxi. The taxi ranks are located outside of the arrivals hall, where journey times can be as little as 15 minutes, although longer if rush hour traffic is on the roads. For those organised enough to plan ahead and reserve a taxi, head to the Schiphol Transfer Assistance (STA) desk, where staff will take you to your waiting cab.
